Neighbourhood
Bristol is a city in the Southwest of England and has about 465.000 inhabitants. The city recognized the importance of finding joint solutions to environmental challenges together with its residents, as evidenced in the city’s European Green Capital award in 2015.
Bristol is currently developing its first Liveable Neighbourhood scheme in partnership with the local community. This will help ensure that the types of interventions implemented meet the needs of local people, that they are tailored to localised issues and that they are developed with community-wide input, understanding, and support. The selected East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood pilot is located in the inner east of Bristol with geographical coverage of 1.7 km2.
Key Challenges
Bristol pilot sets to address the following societal and environmental challenges:
- air pollution
- transport and mobility
- urban safety
- urban accessibility
- building healthier and happier communities
Vision
The overall vision of the East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood pilot is to empower local communities to transform their neighbourhoods into places that provide better access to green and recreational spaces, more seamless and convenient connections to local amenities using sustainable forms of travel, and more space for social and community activities.
The GREENGAGE project will seek to achieve these goals by empowering local communities to transform their neighbourhoods into places that are safe, healthy, inclusive, and attractive.
